IM Engineering Eurasia wins contract to develop Torzilla hydropower project

In February 2018, the State-owned Georgian Energy Development Fund (GEDF) awarded a contract to IM Engineering Eurasia to develop Torzilla HPP, which will be built on the River Torzillastskali in Kharagauli district, Imereti Region in Western Georgia.

The scope of work of the first stage of the 6-month assignment entails a technical and economic feasibility study, which will propose two alternative hydropower schemes.

Services and responsibilities under the second stage of the project will include hydrological, geological, seismic and meteorological studies, sediment investigations, environmental impact assessment, design and cost estimates for the preferred option, as well as project management services.

The run-of-river power plant with Tyrolean-type water intake, settling basin, diversion pipeline, penstock and power house will have a capacity of 1.69 MW and an estimated annual production of 6.88 GWh. The energy generated will be fed to the nearby substation, which supplies power to the railway system and residents in Tsipa village.
